New Junk Journal Class

JUNK JOURNAL CLASS
teacher: Fiona Jellie

NOTE: This class has been rescheduled
Now on July 4th & July 25th

What’s the purpose of a junk journal? It’s probably a question you’ve wondered, especially if you’ve never seen one before. I know it was my reaction when I first saw one. I was intrigued and thought they were beautiful, but I had no clue how you could use one.

Junk Journal: A book which is often made through found and recycled materials to be used as a way to collect and record memories, thoughts, ideas, and inspiration.

Use a junk journal as a memory and photo keeper – junk journals tend to borrow a lot of ideas and techniques from the scrapbooking world, so it’s natural that junk journals often become books for keeping memories, photos, cards, tags, and other bits of ephemera that remind you of friends, family and trips you might have taken.
Junk journals can have any purpose you want them to. Particularly if you’re creating one from scratch – you can make it serve almost any purpose imaginable. Write a novel in it. Use it as a family budget book. Make it into a dream diary, a travel journal, coffee table book, a wedding guest book, a piece of art or a gratitude journal – it’s up to you!

So if you are keen to create your very own junk journal then you have 2 workshops to choose from.  Either 2  x 2hr Thursday afternoon workshops  or 1 x  4hr workshop on a Saturday.

More about Fiona Jellie
Whilst traveling in the United Kingdom and Europe I started collecting treasured pieces of vintage lace not planning on doing anything except admire them.

Now, I focus on reclaiming vintage household linen. I layer it with vintage lace and doileys – reworking them into a collage. Finally, the addition of embellishments including ribbons, braid, beads, sequins, fabric, together with both hand and machine stitching help to renew each piece.

I have also branched out into journal making where I employ the skills I use with fabric to make junk journals, cards and decorative items.

My work is in private collections around Australia and the USA.
In August 2018 I was the Guest Artist at the WA Craft Show. In 2019 I was an Ambassador for Tinker, Tailor, Artist, Maker Mixed Media event on the Gold Coast.
